Some decisions have the power to turn our world upside down. These decisions have to be taken quite seriously, with a lot of thought, weighing the pros and cons and then arriving on a suitable conclusion.

“Whom should I vote for?” “Should I quit my stable day job and experiment with a startup?” ”Should I accept the promotion and move to an alien country?”Such decisions come into the above-mentioned category as they are vital to our future. But deciding which book to buy obviously does not come into this super-important category. Or does it?

When shopping for a new book at Crossword and taking in the new print smell, at the billing counter I was informed that I was the “lucky customer of the day”. The reward was a book token of RS 1000. Jubilant I really was, but I had already wasted ample time in my current purchase.

My exhilaration hit the roof but so had my anxiety, due to my indecisiveness.  I had to rush to a very important and interesting seminar and hence did not have time on my side.

I rushed like a tornado towards my favorite corner, as in my head I had assumed the role of a ninja who was on the lookout for the mega-special sword, which would be the cause of envy for everybody, or in this case just a book! My first instinct to reach for an Agatha Christie, Goosebumps or Geronimo Stilton. These three had a humongous variety and never disappointed. But it dawned on me that half of these I had already read from the Secunderabad Club Library and the other half was present in my own personal library.

Moving on, I saw my all time favorite author Roald Dahl’s books. Every story of his was already imprinted on my brain, in fact, if we had a viva on his stories …… never mind. Reality will always be cruel.

Margaret Atwood and Jeffrey Archer had just launched two bestsellers. Looking forward to inhaling the new print smell (hi-fi bibliophiles), I nearly reached to pick them up. When it hit me, I had a lot of projects to submit this term and these authors had a pesky habit of writing books that were too interesting to put down. I made my firm resolve even more resolute and started to walk away when their shiny cover pages started gleaming. It felt as if they were screaming “Pick Me, Pick Me, and Pick Me.”

As I escaped their advances, my gaze fell on the myriad of comics……..Garfield, Archie’s, Peanuts, Lucifer, Preacher. But being an ardent fan of the TV series like Lucifer and Preacher, I didn’t want to spoil the magic of seeing these creative gems come alive on screen. Played by awesome actors like Tom Ellis, Lauren German in Lucifer and Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga in The Preacher!

Then I chanced upon three of my favorite authors, L S Hilton, Cecilia Ahern, and Sophie Kinsella. Three women authors, each accomplished in her own sphere. L F Hilton exposes the secrets lurking in the shadows of the art world while Sophie Kinsella expresses serious problems like bullying and shopaholic-ness in a comic style.

All stacked along with each other. All three of them explored varieties of human nature in a very delicate manner. Their stories brought about the way in which people from different walks of life responded in strange situations.

But just as I was going to reach for one of them, (clearly choosing one by Inky Pinky Ponky). I heard a noise.

Another desk was rolled in, on it rested a National Geographic Magazine, complete with a DVD, video game and a pen with sharks on it. It had a picture of a ferocious shark on it. It was actually about the pre-historic Megalodon.

Megalodon was the scourge of the seas some 23 million to about 2.6 million years ago, during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. The largest megalodons likely measured nearly 60 feet long, which made them the largest sharks, the largest fish, and possibly even the largest marine predators ever known. Their fossils have been found all over the Earth. Its full name is Carcharocles Megalodon, but some shark enthusiasts just call it “the Meg.”

After providing this information, I think my decision is pretty clear.Along with the fact that my decisions are always the best. So, I am writing this with my shark pen and it’s time to put my skills to use in the video game.
